Being a baker is incredibly advantageous throughout the holiday season. Everyone loves getting cookies and they’re a lot cheaper than most presents.
I’m absolutely not a baker. My aversion towards math is well documented on Fooducated. I shiver when I read the “1/2″ in “1/2 cup flour.” True, non-baking recipes contain measurements. But those recipes are also far more forgiving and easily adjusted so I rarely actually measure out the ingredients.
That laziness does not suffice when baking. That’s why I stick to the world’s simplest recipes and groan the entire time.
For these cookies I used “The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies” (because you should always go for the best). To fancy them up (to convince people that I put real effort into their present), I added the juice of one lemon, 1/2 tablespoon of lemon zest, and 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme.
Both the lemon and the thyme mitigated the cookies’ sweetness. And these cookies will serve as a graceful and cheap way to say: “happy holidays!”
